Hats off to Fathers

How is it that fathers got such a bum rap when it comes to holidays? With mothers, they often get flowers and candy for Mother’s Day, not to mention the other gifts which they are laden with in the month of May.
What do fathers get in thanks for being the other half of the couple who made their children? A tie? A belt? And let’s not forget all of the collect calls that are made on Father’s Day from children who live far away and can’t even be bothered to send a card.
Oh sure, mothers have the pain of labor and childbirth. They are the ones who carried us for nine months and had all the aches and pains of pregnancy.  But fathers are the ones who had to listen to the complaints of the pain in the back and in the feet.  Fathers are the one who would run out in the middle of the night in all kinds of weather to buy the food to help their wife’s crazy cravings.  Fathers are the ones who nearly get their arms wrenched off during childbirth, get called every name in the book, and are told that they can never touch their wife again.
After the child is born, the father is the one who usually works, who is the breadwinner of t he family.  The father is the one who helps their children with their math homework after working all day at their job. They help to coach Little league and t-ball.
So what do fathers get in thanks for all they do for their kids? They get a lousy tie, a belt, and a collect call from children who don’t realize and will never realize what their father did for them.
So here’s to the fathers of the world. May they one day be recognized for all that they do and have done.
